Our Community and Local Resources
Community organizing and engagement is a core component of our mission at Arts In Bushwick. To us, this means both networking and organizing among the arts community in the neighborhood, and working with other community groups to build bridges between artists and other neighborhood residents. For our arts activities, check out our current and past events.
Here are some of our current community projects. For more information on any of these, contact us at community@artsinbushwick.org.
- Place + Displaced - Mapping Cultural Vitality for Civic Participation - We are proud to be part of this exciting new project though our fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas. Using a broad definition of arts and culture to reflect the diverse range of cultural vitality in our neighborhoods, we will be working in partnership with other arts and community organizations to gather data for a Cultural Vitality map and report focused on Bushwick, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint.
- Community mural - We are working with children and families at Bushwick Impact, a family services center, to design and create a mural and community garden. Come see the unveiling during BOS 2008! Contact us to get involved, or for more information.
- The Arts, Sustainability and Gentrification Forum Series - Arts In Bushwick has hosted two discussion forums on the arts, sustainability and gentrification, bringing together artists, activists and a broad and diverse group of community residents to tackle one of the most significant issues in our neighborhood - development, displacement and neighborhood change. More discussions are planned for the summer and fall of 2008. Check out documentation of the first two events, or contact us for more information or to participate in future discussions.
- Bushwick Local Shopping Guide - We are working on a "shop local" campaign with local merchants, to help new residents find products they want to buy locally, and to help local businesses take advantage of the influx of new residents by carrying products that they might otherwise not be able to purchase in the neighborhood. The Bushwick Shopping List Survey will be released this spring, so keep a look out!
We are continually developing our resources and this page, so check back! This page will soon have:
- Information about Bushwick history, current events and other things worth knowing about the neighborhood
- A listing of our community partners and other exciting projects in the neighborhood
- A listing of resources for artists and other Bushwick residents
